We can provide clinical guidance over the phone (for example, consulting on an adverse drug reaction or helping find an interim solution from your emergency stock) and authorize an immediate fill if necessary. Unlike retail pharmacies that close at night, we are a true partner on standby at all times.
- Stat and After-Hours Delivery: For urgent medication requests, we offer stat delivery service to get the medication to your facility as quickly as possible. Our emergency delivery drivers are available evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays – whenever an urgent order comes through. We strategically position oncall drivers or couriers to ensure timely response; whether your facility is 20 minutes away or two hours away, we will coordinate delivery so that critical doses aren’t missed . Many routine pharmacies can’t or won’t deliver at 2 AM – Custom Care will. This can be lifesaving for events like an unexpected seizure requiring an anticonvulsant ASAP, or antibiotics needed to start overnight.
- Emergency Medication Kits (E-Kits): To further safeguard against delays, we provide emergency medication kits to our partner facilities (where allowed by regulations). An E-Kit is a small formulary of commonly needed urgent-use medications (such as certain antibiotics, rescue inhalers, nitroglycerin, antianxiety meds, pain management injections, etc.) kept onsite at your facility in a secure kit. It is supplied and owned by our pharmacy under a physician’s order and kept sealed. In an emergency when pharmacy delivery might take time, your nursing staff can pull a dose from the E-kit (under proper protocols) to administer immediately. We then replace the used dose on the next delivery and handle the prescription order processing after the fact. This ensures residents get timely treatment even if an order comes through at 3 AM when even our fastest driver might take an hour or two to reach you. It’s an added layer of protection we offer to avoid treatment delays in critical situations.
- Backup Pharmacy Network: Custom Care is locally focused, but we prepare for all contingencies. In rare cases (like severe weather, road closures, or a widespread disaster) where our drivers might be hindered, we have relationships with backup pharmacies and courier services. We can coordinate to have an emergency prescription filled at a closer location or deploy special transport (even air courier if needed) to reach a distant facility. Our responsibility is to assure consistent, quality medication delivery to each community we serve – and we take that seriously even under unusual circumstances.
- Continuous Monitoring: Our pharmacy systems flag STAT orders and any unfilled new orders so that none slip through overnight. We have on-call staff who periodically check for new faxes or e-prescriptions after hours, not just waiting for calls. This proactive stance means if a hospital sends over an admission order at 10 PM for a new resident, we catch it and can act, rather than it sitting unseen until morning. We also ensure that next-day morning deliveries include any new orders from late night so that your 7 AM med pass has everything needed.
